Oracle Database Appliance

PTi now carries Oracle midrange servers and storage solutions

Oracle Database ApplianceThe Oracle Database Appliance is a new way to take advantage of the world's most popular database—Oracle Database 11g—in a single, easy-to-deploy and easy-to-manage system. It's a complete package of software, server, storage, and network solutions that is engineered for simplicity. PTi’s experts will save you time and money by simplifying deployment, maintenance, and support of database workloads.

To make it easy, all hardware and software components are supported by a single vendor—Oracle—and offer customers unique pay-as-you-grow software licensing to quickly scale from two processor cores to 24 processor cores without incurring the costs and downtime usually associated with hardware upgrades.

Any size business can benefit from the PTi/Oracle Hardware Solution

The Oracle Database Appliance is a 4U rack-mountable system pre-installed with Oracle Linux and Oracle appliance manager software. Redundancy is built into all components and the Oracle appliance manager software reduces the risk and complexity of deploying highly available databases. It's perfect for consolidating OLTP and data warehousing databases up to 4 terabytes in size, making it ideal for small and medium sized businesses or departmental systems.

Ideal for Small and Midsize Businesses and Enterprise Departments
“Companies are spending tens of thousands of dollars and countless hours to buy, build, and customize database solutions,” said Mendelsohn. “With Oracle Database Appliance, customers get the power of the world’s leading database in a highly available system from a single vendor.” Designed to fit the needs of small and midsize businesses or enterprise departments looking for higher availability, the newest addition to Oracle’s family of engineered systems simplifies deployment, maintenance, and support for high-availability database solutions. “We were able to take so many of the cool things that come with engineered systems and bring them to a different environment,” said Mendelsohn. “And for this market, we added many ease-of-use features to make the experience as simple as possible.”

Benefits of an Engineered System
The benefits of an engineered system are evident at the outset. Oracle’s out-of-the-box integration eliminates the need for organizations to manually integrate multiple applications, a time-consuming and error-prone process. Deployment is a matter of plugging in the power and network, and following a wizard-driven installation procedure. “The time to value is pretty amazing,” said Mendelsohn. “You can get up and running with an application workload in a couple of hours.”

Commitment to Simplicity
The commitment to simplicity extends to ongoing maintenance tasks such as provisioning and patching. The system's Appliance Manager drastically reduces maintenance chores by patching the entire application, from firmware to software, in one operation. Built-in diagnostics automatically monitor the system and can automatically correct many issues. The Appliance Manager also serves as a single point of contact for Oracle Support, collecting relevant files and data into a single compressed file, and automatically logging service requests to help speed problem resolution.

Pay as You Grow
Affordability is built in to Oracle Database Appliance with a unique pay-as-you-grow software licensing system that allows companies to scale in accordance with business growth. The system’s single hardware configuration has up to 24 cores, but organizations can start with as little as 2 cores, and add as they grow. “You license the database software for just the cores you enable, and as you grow you can add more as you need it, with no hardware upgrades required,” noted Mendelsohn.
